At RAISE Village the talk the “smart environments for smart telemonitoring” organized by Spoke 2

On October 27th the talk area of the RAISE Village hosted on stage Ludovico Pedullà and Erica Grange from the Italian Multiple Sclerosis Foundation, Alexey Petrushin and Alessio del Bue from Rehab Technologies, the Italian Institute of Technology, Annalisa Calcagno from the Gaslini Institute and Alberto Pilotto from the E.O. Galliera Hospitals.

The researchers presented the progress of the projects they collaborate in as part of Spoke 2 in a conference entitled “Smart environments for intelligent telemonitoring”.

The application of artificial intelligence in the healthcare field is showing its adaptability in various contexts; a possibility explored by the collaboration between the Italian Institute of Technology, the Gaslini and Galliera hospitals and the FISM/AISM center is the use of AI to serve fragile subjects.

During the presentations it was discussed and shown how, using data collected from sensorized environments and exploiting intelligent algorithms, it is possible to monitor interactions between children and caregivers, detect indicators of multidimensional fragility and evaluate the progress of degenerative pathologies.

Furthermore, the ethical challenges were addressed and the technologies related to the creation of intelligent environments to support clinicians were described, paving the way for a future in which technology supports people’s health.

“Within the collaboration between IIT and clinical partners such as the Galliera hospital, Gaslini hospital and the Multiple Sclerosis Foundation, three showing the possible uses of the technology and their benefits in the medical field prototypes have been developed. This demonstrator is now in the testing phase. As a result of this test we expect to see an effective technological contribution to solve the problem in the clinical field” comments Alexey Petrushin of the Italian Institute of Technology.

“The collaboration within RAISE has given us a lot as the Italian Multiple Sclerosis Foundation because it has allowed us to understand what technologies are currently available in a very transparent way. It was nice to sit down with the technicians from IIT and the University of Genoa who presented their results to us. We were given a lot of freedom to select what seemed useful to us and we then collaborated to build the setup. In the coming weeks, the acquisition of data will hopefully demonstrate the usefulness of this technology for the monitoring and treatment of people with multiple sclerosis” adds Ludovico Pedullà of FISM at the end of the conference

The researchers who spoke would like to thank their collaborators: Andrea Tacchino, Jessica Podda, Giampaolo Brichetto (FISM) Matteo Laffranchi, Giulia Bodo (IIT).
