Currently director of the Institute for Anthropic Impacts and Sustainability in the Marine Environment (IAS-CNR), president of the Genoa Research Area of ​​the CNR and professor of Marine Ecotoxicology at the University of Genoa. Marco Faimali has been involved in applied research to the study of anthropogenic impacts in the marine environment for over 25 years. Its main investigation objective was the characterization of the bio-interactions between materials/technologies and the marine environment (biofouling, biofilm, biocorrosion, antifouling, environmental impact, marine ecotoxicology).
He is responsible for national and international projects, research contracts with SMEs and multinationals and has published over 100 peer-reviewed scientific articles, 31 printed articles in non-international journals with ISSN, 2 national patents, 22 book chapters and conference proceedings with ISBN or ISSN and has produced 112 contributions to international and national conferences (H-index = 41 – Google Scholar).
He was involved in various institutional consultancy activities for the Ministry of the Environment (MATE) on issues related to environmental management in the marine-maritime sector.
He was responsible for various dissemination activities of research results, both at regional and national level. The activities were also presented at events and structures of national importance such as the Genoa Science Festival, Focus Live, the Genoa Boat Show and the Genoa Aquarium and participated in various television programs on national networks.
Marco Faimali currently also holds the role of Spoke 3 Coordinator – Sustainable environmental caring and protection technologies – of the RAISE Innovation Ecosystem (Robotics and AI for Socio-economic Empowerment), created as part of the National Recovery and Resilience Plan, Mission 4, funded by the European Union – NextGenerationEU.
Specifically, Spoke 3 is dedicated to the important challenge of applying robotics and artificial intelligence to study, monitor and preserve the natural capital of our territory.
